The terms that apply when you use Competency Desk, and the limits of what a drafting and checking helper can be relied on for.

What this is
Competency Desk is a helper for engineers drafting their own competency-based assessment. It counts the characters you type, compares your own self-ratings and records with published minimums summarised in its own words, and prints your drafts. It is not an official form, it writes no example text, and it does not decide whether any example or rating is acceptable. Competency Desk does not determine your assessment outcome; the regulator's assessors decide. It gives no legal or career advice.
Official requirements
Regulators change their guides, limits and rules. Where anything here disagrees with your regulator's current guide or portal, those govern. Character limits marked unverified are defaults we could not confirm; read the live limit in your portal. You are responsible for what you submit, and for making sure every example describes your own work in your own words. Competency Desk is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Professional Engineers Ontario, APEGA, Engineers and Geoscientists BC, Engineers Canada or any other engineering regulator.
Your records
Anything the site remembers is stored by your own browser on your own device. It can be cleared by you at any time, cannot be recovered by us, and does not follow you to another device. Keep backups.
Payments
Every feature is free to use, with no account. No paid plan is offered at present; if one is added, this page will describe it.
Acceptable use
Use the site to draft and check your own application. Do not scrape it at a rate that degrades it for other people, and do not present its output as an official document or as a regulator's decision.
Warranty and liability
The site is provided as it is, without warranty of any kind. To the extent the law allows, Competency Desk is not liable for any loss arising from the use of the site or from reliance on anything on it, including an assessment that does not go the way you hoped. A result here is a calculation on the numbers you entered, not advice about your readiness.
Contact
Questions, or a report that a rule or a count is wrong, go to [email protected]. A wrong calculation is a defect and gets fixed.
